About Lake Lavon

The land that Collin Park rests on is rich with layers of North American history. Lake Lavon is well-known as a home of early Native American settlement, including the Sister Grove Creek site, estimated to date between the years A.D. 900 and 1600. The area was later settled by “Cherokee, Delaware, Kickapoo, Tonkawa, and Caddo tribes, and lives just south of where many Cross Timbers “Middle Comanche” bands made their home.
Fast-forward to 1953, after railroads, cattle trade, and western expansion had already made indelible imprints in historical lore, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers finished constructing Lake Lavon in 1953 to manage the flow of the Trinity River. Along 121 miles of shoreline, the lake immediately grew to be a recreational destination.
Arriving in 1981, Tom Miller opened Collin Park Marina and Campground on Lake Lavon and helped grow that recreational culture. The Miller family still operates the marina and campground today. Collin Park is a place where North Texas weekenders can camp, hike, fish, lounge, gather, eat, and enjoy. We welcome you and your family. On over 21,000 acres of lake, we’re glad you’ve decided to spend your time with us here at Collin Park.
